About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist taxpayers in resolving business or individual accounts delinquent in filing returns or paying tax liabilities
  • Help taxpayers correct delinquencies through a variety of methods
  • Answer taxpayer questions regarding Nebraska regulations, statutes, forms and refunds
  • Answer questions about obtaining a DOR permit or license
  • Research and apply tax laws, rules and regulations
  • Use collection procedures and independent judgment to determine taxpayer compliance issues
  • Work from the Lincoln or Omaha office

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate’s Degree in business, or two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules or regulations
  • Preferred: Two years of customer service or comparable work experience
  • Knowledge of processes and procedures for collection
  • Knowledge of mathematics and accounting
  • Knowledge of business operations and practices
  • Knowledge of resources for researching tax laws, rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, Oracle and Outlook
  • Skills in verbal/written communication, negotiation, active listening, emotional intelligence, reading comprehension, time management, personal management, critical thinking, data entry, computer use and databases
  • Ability to communicate clear and concise ideas
  • Ability to set priorities
  • Ability to relate effectively with people representing varied backgrounds
  • Ability to determine why a taxpayer is not in compliance
  • Ability to utilize collection procedures
  • Ability to use independent judgment
  • The Department does not sponsor STEM OPT or non-immigrant work visas for this position
