About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently complete assigned caseloads
- Investigate complaints of alleged unlawful discriminatory practices in employment, housing, and public accommodations
- Draft charges, interview narratives, and case reports compiling investigation evidence
- Interview individuals filing discrimination charges under Nebraska and federal discrimination statutes
- Draft charges and request information responsive to charge filings
- Conduct detailed interviews and gather evidence to determine whether discrimination occurred
- Analyze and summarize information in written case reports
- Maintain detailed written records and case management system records
- Provide technical assistance to the public
- Conduct settlement discussions
- Drive between offices or conduct on-site visits when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Education, coursework, training or experience in investigative techniques, inter-group relations, human resources, or related field
- Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission policies and regulations and relevant Nebraska discrimination, equal pay, public accommodations, and fair housing statutes
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for handling discrimination complaints
- Knowledge of interview and investigation techniques and procedures
- Skills in analyzing employment and housing policies and practices and relating them to relevant statutes and case law
- Interviewing skills
- Ability to conduct settlement discussions
- Ability to summarize evidence into concise, thorough written reports
- Ability to operate a computer to perform job duties
- Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision after initial training
- Ability to plan, structure, and schedule investigative work
- Ability to complete written reports within established policies and procedures
- Ability to meet case production and timeliness goals
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and the public
- Driving between offices or conducting on-site visits may be required
