About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate loaders, trucks, tractors, mowers, and hand tools
  • Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and assist with repairs
  • Perform manual labor including pothole patching, sign repair, snow fence erection, and roadway, bridge, and culvert repair
  • Load and unload materials
  • Work long hours during flooding, storms, and other emergencies
  • Work in temperature extremes and during traffic management and safety incidents
  • Respond to emergency call-outs, including outside scheduled work hours, holidays, and weekends
  • Perform snow removal, sanding, and de-icing
  • Report to work on short notice for highway emergencies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements required within 60 days of employment
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with O Restriction and tanker endorsement required within 90 days of hire through in-house CDL training
  • Must be available for emergency call-outs and short-notice reporting
  • Must be able to work long hours during emergencies
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes and around high-speed traffic
  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, crouch, and lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally, and 90 or more pounds infrequently with assistance
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively, give and receive instructions, and follow directions with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer and arithmetic skills
  • Ability to work safely and demonstrate reliable practices
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
  • Preferred: experience operating heavy equipment or farming background
  • Preferred: valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement
  • Preferred: Commercial Pesticide applicator's license
  • Preferred: basic computer experience
