About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform inspections on routine phases of construction projects under immediate supervision
- Use Windows-based computer programs, including Microsoft Word and/or Excel, to maintain construction records and documentation as necessary
- Participate as a member of a survey crew
- Perform tests on construction materials
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Support highway safety and construction operations for the Nebraska Department of Transportation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Highway Construction Technician I applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- Valid driver's license required
- Highway Construction Technician II: experience in construction work such as surveying, materials testing, or field inspections, OR coursework/training in construction surveying, materials testing, or inspection practices and use of associated instruments and equipment
- Preferred: coursework, training, and/or experience in math, construction management, and engineering
- Preferred: basic computer experience
- Experience not required
- May require out-of-town, overnight travel
- Regular and reliable attendance required
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to safely move, drag, and lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally without assistance, and 90 or more pounds infrequently with assistance
- Ability to climb, bend, or stoop
- Ability to work in outdoor temperature extremes and around high-speed traffic
- Ability to be reached to report to work outside scheduled hours for highway emergencies within 45 minutes of notification
