About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own Clara's test automation strategy, frameworks, and quality standards across web, API, and mobile surfaces
Define and evolve the automation roadmap, test pyramid, risk-based prioritization, and shift-left practices
Own architecture decisions for shared automation frameworks and establish coding and maintainability standards
Establish organization-wide release-blocking coverage, flakiness thresholds, and automation-versus-manual-testing standards
Partner with Engineering Directors, Pod Leads, Product, and Platform/Infra on capacity, environments, test data, and adoption plans
Mentor QA engineers and developers on automation, code review, and shared tooling
Run technical hiring signal for automation-related roles
Drive GitHub Actions CI/CD integration, test reporting, and actionable failure triage
Enable product pods to own execution without absorbing every manual validation request
This is not a formal people-management role unless explicitly scoped with the manager

Requirements

What you’ll need

6+ years in software quality engineering with deep automation experience
Hands-on ownership of test automation frameworks for web and API
Playwright strongly preferred; Cypress, Selenium, or Webdriver.io also relevant
Experience designing modular, data-driven test suites
Solid programming skills in TypeScript and/or JavaScript
Comfort reading and reviewing production-adjacent code
API testing expertise at contract/integration layers
Familiarity with SQL and test-data design
CI/CD integration experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent
Understanding of flaky-test management and parallelization
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum or Kanban delivery
Risk-based test prioritization experience
Exposure to mobile automation such as Appium and BrowserStack is valuable
Proven technical leadership across multiple teams
Strong stakeholder communication skills
Excellent English, written and verbal
Spanish is a plus for LATAM collaboration
Nice-to-have: AI-assisted QA tooling, orchestration tools such as n8n, ticketing integrations such as Linear, internal test-management/reporting platforms, financial/fintech product experience, and ISTQB or equivalent
