About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide high-level professional accounting expertise for complex fiscal records, reports and systems
  • Analyze financial and investment data
  • Prepare forecasts and financial accounting research and interpretations within the designated County department
  • Provide training and daily direction to lower-level accounting support staff
  • Create, track and report on grants on SEFA
  • Train grant users on proper grant procedures within Workday ERP
  • Track expenditures, prepare journal entries, arrange fund transfers and reconcile accounts to the General Ledger
  • Research and interpret accounting and financial issues
  • Develop recommendations for policies and procedures and contribute to department fiscal planning
  • Set up and maintain suppliers
  • Prepare 1099s
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, including at least one year directly related to the work of the position
  • Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting, particularly as related to County operations
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing accounting procedures and systems
  • Knowledge of computer applications, especially financial reporting systems such as Excel, word processing and graphics
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision
  • Ability to research, analyze and interpret accounting applications and processes
  • Ability to interpret and explain County accounting policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials and the general public
  • Certified Public Accountant certification is highly desirable
