About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide information to the public, co-workers and outside agencies about cases and court processes
- Process case filing documents from the public, prosecuting attorney and attorneys
- Participate in daily team assignments supporting Court operations
- Maintain multiple data and case management systems
- Assist in training assigned staff as needed
- Attend Court and accurately record minutes of proceedings
- Instruct defendants and administer oaths
- Oversee exhibits and prepare and process Court orders
- Issue warrants, summonses, subpoenas, notices, hearings, writs and other legal documents
- Receive, receipt, disburse and balance fines, bail, support, restitution, court costs, trust accounts, juror fees and witness fees
- Prepare Court calendars and case files; schedule hearings and coordinate jury trials
- Prepare cases for appellate proceedings and process appeals
- Liaise with prosecutors, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, judges and legal parties
- Respond to telephone inquiries and handle correspondence and document routing
- Perform data entry and compile, code, record, enter and extract data
- Process notary bonds, business information, commitments, releases, referrals, citations and complaints
- Arrange and monitor time payments and pursue collection of dishonored checks
- Monitor case dispositions and defendant compliance with sentences
- Assist in balancing daily receipts and accounts
- Operate standard office equipment and perform related work
Requirements
What you’ll need- Two years of clerical word processing, typing or stenographic work experience, including at least one year directly related to the work of the class; or one year (45 credit hours) of post-secondary business, legal or office occupational training or education may substitute for one year of required experience
- Knowledge of modern office practices
- Knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Knowledge of Court and court processing activity
- Ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment
- Ability to follow, understand and apply procedures, policies, laws and regulations to legal processing activities
- Clear oral and written communication
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, word processors, computer terminals, typewriters, adding machines, calculators, dictaphones, copiers and transcribers
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods while performing routine and repetitive functions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
