About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop high-quality software aligned with user needs and business goals
  • Take technical ownership of high-profile, high-traffic WordPress properties and evolve their applications, integrations, architecture, and supporting services
  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize enterprise-scale WordPress applications, custom themes, plugins, integrations, APIs, and performance improvements
  • Write secure, testable, maintainable, and extensible code
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and cross-functional teams
  • Build performant and responsive web experiences using WordPress, PHP, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Go, and related frameworks
  • Ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and security of consumer websites
  • Design and optimize Postgres and MySQL databases
  • Apply DevOps workflows for development, deployment, and ongoing operations
  • Work on service-oriented and high-availability web application architectures
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, troubleshooting, and delivery speed
  • Design and build custom APIs and integrations
  • Manage and review code using GitHub or similar version control systems
  • Lead or participate in technical design reviews
  • Review other developers' code and provide constructive feedback
  • Provide technical direction and day-to-day engineering leadership
  • Participate in hiring and mentor junior and mid-level engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Five years of experience with object-oriented programming and one or more languages/frameworks such as PHP, Java, Node.js, Golang, or JavaScript
  • Strong hands-on experience developing, maintaining, and supporting WordPress applications, including custom themes, plugins, APIs, and third-party integrations
  • Experience managing and optimizing high-traffic WordPress websites, including performance, caching, security, scalability, and production troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and application architecture
  • Three years of experience with modern JavaScript frameworks; strong React experience preferred
  • Three years of experience testing, maintaining, and launching software products
  • Experience developing and supporting CMS-driven applications and integrations
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, or similar technologies
  • Experience performing root cause analysis across applications, infrastructure, data, and processes
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Bitbucket, Git, or Postman
  • Strong understanding of application and data security
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Ability to work within existing codebases and open-source technologies, identify improvements, and optimize them over time
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and platform ownership while remaining hands-on
