About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct thorough medical histories and complete physical examinations where indicated
  • Initiate appropriate laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests
  • Review laboratory data to establish current health status and develop diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by license, state board, and Cleveland Clinic policies
  • Educate patients about diseases, treatments, and medication or treatment side effects and hazards
  • Participate in medical team rounds
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care
  • Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources as appropriate
  • Serve as a liaison among patients, multidisciplinary care teams, and specialty areas
  • Review records and treatment plans to monitor patient outcomes and quality of care
  • Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
  • Support professional development of the healthcare team
  • Promote evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research
  • Potentially conduct research studies and assist with data collection and analysis
  • Potentially serve as a clinical preceptor and onboard new caregivers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)
  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited APRN program
  • APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for applicable external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role
  • PA: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program
  • PA: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree from a program recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • NP: Current Nurse Practitioner license in applicable state(s)
  • NP: RN license in applicable state(s)
  • NP: National Nurse Practitioner certification from a nationally accredited organization recognized by the State Board of Nursing
  • PA: Physician Assistant certification through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • PA: License to practice and prescribe issued by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • Current DEA license or DEA designee as required by NCQA
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, or ATLS may be required based on work setting
  • NP: Physician arrangements in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing requirements
  • PA: Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum
  • Credentialing and privileges through the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals
  • Oral and written communication in English
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Ability to utilize the electronic medical record
  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Related clinical experience preferred
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination for physical examinations
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to follow standard precautions and use required personal protective equipment
