About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with an established Foot & Ankle surgeon in a mature surgical practice
  • Manage patients across the continuum of care
  • Run independent clinics for new, established, and postoperative adult and pediatric patients
  • Provide same-day access for injuries and fractures
  • Provide medical management and surgical decision-making
  • Optimize and expedite patients to surgery when indicated
  • First assist in surgery as needed
  • Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations
  • Initiate laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests
  • Establish working diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by license and policy
  • Educate patients about diseases, treatments, and medication or treatment side effects and hazards
  • Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with healthcare team members
  • Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources
  • Ensure continuity of care across multidisciplinary and specialty teams
  • Participate in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans
  • Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
  • Support professional development of the healthcare team
  • Promote evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research
  • Conduct research studies and assist with data collection and analysis as needed
  • Serve as clinical preceptor for students and onboard new caregivers as needed
  • Follow standard precautions and use required personal protective equipment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • PA or NP (FNP) with strong clinical skills
  • Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider
  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited APRN program
  • APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for applicable external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role
  • PA: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program
  • PA: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree from a program recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • NP: Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s)
  • NP: Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)
  • NP: National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
  • PA: Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • PA: License to practice and prescribe issued by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
  • Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA for PA applicants
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, or ATLS may be required based upon work setting
  • NP applicants must have arrangements with at least one physician as required by the applicable State Board of Nursing
  • PA applicants must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum
  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals
  • Oral and written communication in English
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the electronic medical record
  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods; perform physical examinations; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Related clinical experience preferred
