About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide primary or specialty nursing/medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic conditions
- Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations
- Initiate laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic testing
- Review diagnostic data to establish patient health status, diagnosis, and treatment plans
- Work with a collaborating physician
- Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures
- Perform injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and other privileged procedures
- Assist with complex illness and injury management, surgical operations, and life-threatening situations
- Prescribe and monitor medications within applicable authority and policy
- Perform specialized procedures including bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, blood draws, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, and paracentesis
- Educate patients about diseases, treatments, medications, side effects, and preventive health
- Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Refer patients to specialists and specialized resources
- Coordinate continuity of care across multidisciplinary and specialty teams
- Perform research follow-up studies and assist with data analysis
- Participate in quality monitoring through record and treatment-plan review
- Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
- May precept PA/APRN students and other health professionals
- May onboard and serve as faculty for new employees
- May take call and work off-hours shifts
- Obtain special procedure privileges as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- PA or APRN qualification
- Post-graduate experience required for a PRN position
- APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 5 years of hire for applicable external and internal hires
- APRN: Graduate of an accredited APRN training program
- PA: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program
- PA: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or applicable state license through the State Medical Board for certificate to practice
- APRN: Current Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licenses in the applicable state
- APRN: National certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and current state Board of Nursing licensure, including prescriptive certificate if applicable
- PA: Current NCCPA certification
- PA: Prescriptive authority or eligibility to apply for prescribing licensure within the first 6 months of hiring
- PA: Physician Supervision Agreement and/or signed addendum
- PA: Privileged by CCF's Credentialing Board
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required
- ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on work setting
- Cancer-specific certification or ongoing qualifying education may be required for applicable oncology work
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Advanced assessment and diagnosis competency
- Ability to use electronic medical records
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Surgical experience may be required for surgical fields
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work with potential exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
- Compliance with personal protective equipment requirements
- Must comply with annual influenza prevention program requirements
