About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Act as an independent outpatient clinician collaborating with APPs, physicians, and the healthcare team
- Work alongside a surgeon with an independent clinic schedule
- Medically manage and treat patients with a variety of spinal conditions
- Assess surgical and medical spine patients and patients following spinal interventional procedures
- Diagnose spinal pathology and initiate and execute treatment plans
- Exercise autonomous medical decision-making while collaborating with physicians and healthcare team members
- Counsel and educate medical spine patients
- Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations where indicated
- Initiate and interpret laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic tests
- Perform routine and specialized procedures according to credentials and privileges
- Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by license and Cleveland Clinic policies
- Educate patients about diseases, treatments, and medication or treatment side effects and hazards
- Participate in medical team rounds and coordinate quality patient care
- Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources as appropriate
- Ensure continuity of care as a liaison across multidisciplinary and specialty teams
- Monitor quality through periodic review of records, treatment plans, and patient outcomes
- Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
- Support healthcare team professional development
- Promote evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research
- May conduct research and assist with data collection and analysis
- May serve as a clinical preceptor and onboard new caregivers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- APRN (Family or Adult Certified) or PA qualification
- For APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for applicable external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role
- Graduate of an accredited APRN program, or graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program
- For PA: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree from a program recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
- Oral and written communication in English
- NP: Current Nurse Practitioner license and RN license in applicable state(s)
- NP: National Nurse Practitioner certification from a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
- PA: Physician Assistant certification through NCCPA or successor organization recognized by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
- PA: License to practice and prescribe issued by the practicing state’s Licensing Board
- PA: Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required
- Applicable advanced certification may be required based on work setting: ACLS, PALS, NRP, or ATLS
- NP: Arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing requirements
- PA: Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum
- Credentialing and privileges through the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis
- Ability to use the electronic medical record
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Related clinical experience preferred
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination for physical examinations
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to follow required personal protective equipment precautions
