About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide primary and/or specialty care as a Certified Nurse Midwife Advanced Practice Provider
  • See patients in outpatient and inpatient clinics within a full scope of practice
  • Provide contraceptive care, including IUDs and subdermal implants
  • Care for women across the lifespan, from menarche through beyond menopause
  • Provide full-scope intrapartum care, postpartum rounds, and labor management
  • Collaborate with physicians in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations
  • Initiate and interpret laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Establish working diagnoses and treatment plans
  • Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by licensure and policy
  • Educate patients about diseases, treatments, drug effects, and hazards
  • Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Refer patients to specialists and specialized health resources
  • Ensure continuity of care as a liaison between patients and care teams
  • Monitor quality through periodic review of records and treatment plans
  • Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance for inpatient management
  • Support healthcare team professional development
  • Promote evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research
  • Conduct research studies and assist with data collection and analysis
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor and onboard new caregivers
  • Participate in night call, including in-house call
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider
  • MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role
  • Graduate of an accredited APRN program
  • Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Midwife APRN in applicable state(s)
  • Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)
  • National certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the State Board of Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), may be required based upon work setting
  • Arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing requirements
  • Credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Ability to utilize the electronic medical record
  • High standard of moral and ethical behavior
  • Compassion, professionalism, and commitment to excellent patient care
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Oral and written communication in English
  • Related clinical experience preferred
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods
  • Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work with possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
