About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with the Cloud Center of Excellence and other cloud engineers to design and implement cloud solutions aligned with organizational and divisional goals
- Provide expert guidance and hands-on support for cloud adoption and administration
- Plan and implement infrastructure to transition scientific workloads into a cloud-based environment
- Work with administrators to deliver research capabilities in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Champion simplicity, consistency, reusability, and standardization across the division
- Implement the overarching cloud vision, strategy, and approach with the ITD architecture team
- Take ownership of cloud project, design, and operational success
- Design, implement, and manage cloud systems for performance, scalability, and security
- Mentor and train junior team members and others on cloud best practices, architectures, tools, and processes
- Develop automation scripts, templates, and frameworks to streamline deployment and operations
- Monitor cloud environments and analyze cost and performance metrics
- Lead meetings and presentations on cloud status, operations, outcomes, issues, and improvement opportunities
- Provide subject matter expertise and tailored solutions to evolving challenges
- Collaborate with engineers and IT architects across the division
- Support smooth transition of products from development to sustainable production deployment
- Engage with division leaders, stakeholders, and external allies to create architectural solutions
- Drive adoption of emerging cloud technologies, tools, and methodologies
- Perform hands-on implementation and development, including prototyping and coding
- Understand multi-cloud offerings and maintain a catalog optimized for internal enterprise use
- Position the organization to leverage cutting-edge technologies and innovative practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline
- Additional experience or relevant certifications may offset some or all of education requirements
- Seven years of experience working in areas of computer systems and Infrastructure, including a minimum of three years specializing in cloud engineering
- Preferably experience in Azure cloud solutions
- Demonstrated advanced skills in technical judgment across systems, scale, performance, security, and fault tolerance
- Advanced experience with and significant knowledge of at least one cloud platform
- Experience working within small to medium sized cloud engineering teams
- In-depth knowledge of IaC and platform automation tools such as Azure ARC, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt, and Terraform preferred
- Ability to communicate and present technical concepts to a wide range of audiences
- ITIL Foundations certification required within 6 months of position start date for Information Technology Division caregivers
- Advanced cloud certification preferred
- Azure Certifications preferred
- Experience with multiple cloud providers desired, including Azure, IBM, AWS, and GCP
- Experience in research preferred
- Familiarity with Azure Dev Ops preferred
- Previously operated in a regulated environment preferred
- Experience with AI development tools such as Azure Machine Learning, Sagemaker, Bedrock, or similar preferred
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to travel throughout the hospital system
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
- Must comply with the influenza prevention program by obtaining an annual influenza vaccination or approved exemption
