About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop individualized exercise prescriptions for patients with cardiovascular disease
  • Oversee exercise progression in a cardiac rehabilitation setting
  • Provide direct patient care to individuals recovering from open heart surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention
  • Support patients through acute and outpatient phases of recovery
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites
  • Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance, and endurance
  • Update exercise prescriptions based on test data, patient status, medication regimen, and patient response
  • Implement cardiac secondary prevention concepts
  • Recognize exercise contraindications and abnormal patient responses
  • Respond appropriately to exercise cessation and referrals to medical professionals
  • Provide exercise information to patients, peers, and the community, including public speaking and education classes
  • Provide coverage at both Mercy Hospital and North Canton

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in exercise-related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross for Healthcare Providers
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and help patients stand and walk
  • Ability to perform lifting, bending, and twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients
  • Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
  • Must comply with controlled-substance testing after an employment offer
  • Must comply with the annual influenza prevention program or obtain an approved exemption
