About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a full-time intensivist in Medical and Cardiac ICUs at Fairview, Hillcrest, and Main Campus
- Rotate between all three hospital sites
- Work on the Main Campus Sepsis Early Response Team
- Provide care to adults with critical, life-threatening illness in an intensive care setting
- Conduct patient evaluation and management
- Perform urgent patient-management procedures, including airway and ventilator management, central lines, arterial lines, difficult peripheral IVs, and chest tubes
- Work three 12-hour shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Conduct medical histories and complete physical examinations
- Initiate and interpret laboratory, radiology, cardiographic, and other diagnostic tests
- Establish diagnoses and treatment plans
- Perform injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and specialized procedures
- Prescribe and monitor medications as permitted by prescriptive authority and policy
- Educate patients about diseases, treatments, medications, side effects, and preventive health
- Participate in medical-team rounds and collaborate with healthcare team members
- Refer patients to specialists and coordinate multidisciplinary care
- Conduct research follow-up studies and assist in data analysis
- Participate in quality monitoring through record and treatment-plan reviews
- Facilitate length of stay, discharge planning, and regulatory compliance
- Precept PA/APRN students and other health professionals as assigned
- Support onboarding as faculty for new employees
- Routinely take call and work weekends, holidays, nights, and other off-shift hours
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Physician Assistant, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist qualification
- APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role
- Graduate of an accredited APRN program
- PA: Graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant Program
- PA: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree from a program recognized by the practicing state's Licensing Board
- Oral and written communication in English
- NP: Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s)
- NP: Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)
- NP: National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
- CNS: Currently licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in applicable state(s)
- CNS: Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s)
- CNS: National certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
- PA: Certification as a Physician Assistant through the NCCPA or successor organization recognized by the practicing state's Licensing Board
- PA: License to practice and prescribe issued by the practicing state's Licensing Board
- PA: Current DEA License or DEA designee as required by NCQA
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, or ATLS may be required based upon work setting
- NP/CNS: Physician arrangements in accordance with applicable State Board of Nursing requirements
- PA: Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum required
- Credentialing and privileging by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals required
- Special procedure privileging is required
- Related clinical experience preferred
- Ability to work three 12-hour shifts, including rotating nights, weekends, holidays, and off-shift hours
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods
- Manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to perform physical examinations
- Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
- Must follow standard precautions using required personal protective equipment
