About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Administer patient-centered Occupational Therapy treatment using evidence-based practice and skilled techniques under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist
- Communicate changes in patient status to the primary therapist
- Act as a clinical instructor and participate in education and evaluation of students
- Serve as a resource for volunteers and observers
- Participate in staff development, education programs, and interdepartmental education
- Direct and supervise support personnel while retaining responsibility for patient care
- Help patients with rehabilitative activities, dressing, and grooming as needed
- Observe and record patient progress throughout rehabilitation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s degree or certificate
- Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Experience in a clinical area preferred
- Ability to walk without assistive device and maintain balance despite sudden load
- Ability to meet heavy-level physical demands
- Ability to lift and reach sufficiently to lift a patient's extremity during therapeutic treatment
- Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to palpate muscle tension or monitor patient pulse
- Visual acuity to observe motor movements and read patient monitors
- Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families
- Ability to hear at a conversational level
- Ability to follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required
- Successful controlled-substance testing required after employment offer
