About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure accuracy of the system-wide master patient index by validating and capturing patient demographic data
  • Validate patient physician information and ensure accurate collection
  • Identify patients needing financial counseling for appropriate payment of services
  • Triage appointments based on diagnosis, patient preferences and physician specialty
  • Coordinate services and provide special instructions to patients, internal physicians and referring physicians
  • Perform intra- and inter-departmental scheduling according to physician orders
  • Receive and process provider orders and schedule according to protocol
  • Ensure accuracy of data, including CPT coding and case information such as side and equipment
  • Liaise with the admitting office regarding hospital reservations
  • Act as a resource to surgeons, medical secretaries, nurses, residents and other department personnel
  • Communicate with patients and families, providing detailed instructions, directions and available resources

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of computerized appointment/OR scheduling systems, patient billing, insurance processing or related office functions
  • Two years of related experience in medical terminology, patient registration, patient billing, insurance processing or appointment/operating room scheduling OR three years of customer service concierge experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications
  • Proficient in personal computers (PC) and general knowledge of PC-based systems and software
  • Preferred: In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and/or CPT/ICD coding
  • Must comply with post-offer controlled-substance testing
  • Must comply with the annual influenza prevention program or obtain an approved exemption
  • Must use personal protective equipment as required
