About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage council tax administration across a portfolio of student accommodation, including HMO/cluster flats and self-contained studio units
  • Register and maintain tenant and occupancy information with local authorities
  • Process full-time student exemptions and applicable council tax discounts
  • Liaise with local authorities regarding billing, liability, exemption and arrears queries
  • Notify councils of occupancy, room ownership and other relevant property changes
  • Act as the primary contact for council tax matters for leaseholders, tenants, internal teams and local authorities
  • Manage the council tax inbox and respond to enquiries
  • Arrange authorised payment of confirmed council tax liabilities for leaseholders/owners
  • Maintain records of council tax payments, balances, charges and adjustments
  • Negotiate and manage council-approved payment plans for arrears
  • Record council tax charges, payments and adjustments in the CRM with the Client Liaison Team
  • Support collection, checking and recording of student exemption evidence
  • Prepare council tax reports and provide updates to senior management
  • Collect post and parcels from the Salisbury Head Office at least twice weekly
  • Open, sort, review, scan and distribute incoming post and parcels
  • Manage staff access to the Salisbury storage unit
  • Support general local administrative tasks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience in council tax, property administration, student accommodation, residential property management or a similar environment advantageous
  • Strong administrative experience and the right approach accepted as an alternative background
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence communicating with local authorities, tenants, owners and internal stakeholders
  • Good numerical and record-keeping skills
  • Experience using CRM systems, databases or property management systems
  • Proactive approach to resolving queries and following issues through to completion
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team
