About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Help shape the technical direction and roadmap of Unify Release Orchestration (Unify RO)
Learn and assess the current RO architecture, identifying strengths, risks, and ideas worth carrying forward from CDRO Classic
Sequence the technical roadmap so the team delivers value every few weeks rather than pursuing multi-quarter rewrites
Collaborate with the RO product manager and the wider engineering team on what to build, why, how, and in what order
Stay hands-on with complex cross-team technical problems
Work as a peer with core-team and contributing engineers, improving technical decision-making without centralizing decisions
Provide candid design and code reviews
Serve as a technical contact for RO work outside the core team
Engage CDRO Classic customers interested in Unify RO and bring back relevant feedback
Drive adoption of RO pipelines within CloudBees to help teams ship PRs faster and safer
Partner with Unify FM on progressive delivery and feature flagging
Maintain strong testing, service boundaries, and release discipline
Reduce technical debt continuously
Improve observability and root-cause diagnosis
Enable other teams to work safely in the RO codebase through tooling, clear specifications, onboarding, and code review
Document architectural decisions and their rationale

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience
Principal or staff+ scope demonstrating measurable improvement of complex, live systems and teams, including sequencing and trade-off decisions
Leadership through influence and technical credibility rather than formal authority
Ability to form and defend technical opinions, incorporate better evidence, and earn agreement
Comfort speaking directly with customers about technical trade-offs
Hands-on backend experience building and operating microservices on AWS
Ideally, experience with Go; strong experience in a comparable backend language with willingness to deepen Go is acceptable
Distributed-systems expertise, including concurrency, event-driven architectures, message buses, and production failure modes
Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar
Sense of humor
Nice to have: experience with CI/CD systems, workflow/pipeline engines, or developer platforms
Nice to have: experience with progressive delivery or feature flagging
Nice to have: Java experience
