About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the core engineering team for Cloudflare Registrar and Cloudflare Registry
- Architect, scale, and innovate across the complete domain lifecycle, including domain purchasing, DNS integration, .gov hosting infrastructure, compliance, and registry operations
- Recruit, mentor, and retain systems engineers
- Foster a culture focused on speed, reliability, and continuous delivery
- Define the domain-management roadmap with Product Managers and technical leaders
- Align architectural choices with long-term business and reliability goals
- Own operational health, including SLOs, incident response, customer escalations, and technical debt management
- Oversee tools and APIs handling millions of domain lifecycle events while maintaining high availability and low latency
- Coordinate with legal, security, and registry bodies on compliance requirements, ICANN policies, and domain security standards such as DNSSEC
- Drive robust testing, automated CI/CD workflows, deep debugging, and zero-downtime deployments
- Partner with Product Management, Security, and cross-functional platform teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- At least 4+ years directly managing engineering teams building scalable backend or infrastructure systems
- Hands-on background in systems programming with Go, Java, TypeScript, Ruby/Rails, or similar high-performance languages
- Ability to participate in system design reviews and unblock complex technical paths
- Proven experience operating high-throughput microservices, distributed data infrastructure, or public cloud platforms such as GCP and Kubernetes
- Exceptional ability to translate complex infrastructure and regulatory requirements into clear execution plans
- Demonstrated success growing senior engineers, shaping team culture, and driving accountability
- Direct domain registry/registrar, ICANN compliance, or DNS/DNSSEC experience is a bonus
- Experience with Cloudflare’s Developer Platform is a bonus
- Hands-on experience leveraging AI coding tools is a bonus
- Familiarity with OpenAPI, relational databases such as Postgres, and observability suites such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana is a bonus
- Authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export laws without sponsorship for an export license may be required
