About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the technical vision and architectural integrity of Fintua’s fintech platform across new and existing systems
  • Own end-to-end solution architecture for new product initiatives and production systems
  • Assess architectural debt, integration gaps, and duplicated capabilities; define and prioritise remediation roadmaps
  • Design integration-ready, debt-conscious new solutions and define target-state architectures and migration paths
  • Establish and enforce architectural guardrails and standards, including AI and agentic capability standards
  • Build and maintain a platform-wide technical debt register and champion debt reduction
  • Identify and eliminate redundant systems, data stores, and integration patterns
  • Define definition-of-done standards covering testing, documentation, decoupling, and observability
  • Design the integration layer for internal solutions and external parties
  • Establish API-first integration patterns and own API strategy and governance
  • Evaluate and onboard external integrations and partners for architectural and security fit
  • Define the architecture and roadmap for a shared data lake/data platform
  • Design data models, ingestion pipelines, access patterns, governance, lineage, access control, and privacy-by-design controls
  • Drive migration from siloed or duplicated client data stores to the shared data layer
  • Architect for high availability, fault tolerance, and low-latency transaction processing at scale
  • Lead architectural reviews and set design standards across engineering teams
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers and act as technical escalation point
  • Maintain architecture documentation, decision records, technical debt registers, and system/data-flow diagrams
  • Support due diligence, audits, and regulatory examinations
  • Assess emerging fintech technology trends

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 15+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in a solution/enterprise architect role
  • Proven experience architecting systems in fintech
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, and API design
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferably) and infrastructure-as-code
  • Strong knowledge of financial industry compliance and security standards (PCI-DSS, SOC 2, GDPR or equivalent)
  • Experience designing for high-throughput, low-latency, transactional systems requiring strong consistency and auditability
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience presenting architecture decisions to technical, executive and high level customer audiences
  • Experience with relational, NoSQL, and event-streaming database technologies
  • Track record of modernising or migrating legacy systems while live in production without disrupting the business
  • Experience designing integration layers across heterogeneous systems using event-driven and API-first patterns
  • Experience designing or implementing a data lake, data warehouse, or shared data platform including governance, access control, and lineage
  • Ability to identify, quantify, and drive down technical debt at organisational level
  • Working knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and models such as TOGAF or Zachman, and experience applying them in an engineering organisation
  • Prior experience in a scale-up fintech environment, including legacy-to-cloud migrations and post-acquisition platform integration (preferred)
  • Experience with data mesh or federated data governance models (preferred)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (preferred)
  • Familiarity with master data management or customer 360 initiatives in a regulated data environment (preferred)
  • Relevant certifications such as TOGAF 9/10, AWS/GCP/Azure Architect, CISSP, or Data Engineering/Architecture certifications (preferred)
