About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and direct an underwriting team specializing in National Accounts Property (NAP) Structured Risk Segment
  • Drive underwriting excellence, ensure profitability and foster business development for a national portfolio
  • Achieve business results through effective management and strategic implementation of objectives and policies for NAP ground-up business
  • Align business activities with strategic plans for the NY, NJ and New England territory
  • Implement strategic objectives, underwriting strategies and best practices
  • Ensure continued profitability, growth and operational efficiencies through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues
  • Evaluate underwriting performance through financial analysis, including rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews
  • Provide results to underwriting management and develop issue-resolution plans
  • Drive adherence to underwriting authority delegation, audit criteria and catastrophe management
  • Collaborate with Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Worldwide Operations and Compliance business partners
  • Guide development of underwriting and training tools
  • Lead and manage staff, with accountability for talent management and succession planning
  • Develop underwriting strategies and position papers for emerging issues when assigned
  • Maintain relationships with branches, brokers, agents and customers to assess risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging issues
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent
  • Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience
  • Five years management experience
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) roles
  • In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the insurance field
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment
  • Leadership and management skills, demonstrating integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
