About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage the most complex liability construction defect claims
  • Investigate claims, including coverage defenses, liability and damages exposures
  • Determine whether major claims should be settled or litigated and implement resolution strategies
  • Manage loss costs, claim expenses and reserves on major claims
  • Direct investigative activity and litigation on major claims
  • Consult and collaborate with staff counsel or panel attorneys on discovery and litigation strategy
  • Negotiate complex settlement packages
  • Participate in developing and implementing claims policy and business strategy
  • Identify ways to reduce inefficiencies in claims processes
  • Communicate exposures to senior claims management and internal business partners
  • Monitor state/territory regulations, industry activity and trends
  • Mentor less experienced claims staff and contribute to claim training
  • Lead special claims projects and presentations
  • Identify trends in complex claims and settlement strategies and communicate them to senior management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically a minimum 10 years claims experience with proven track record of success
  • Highest level of technical and product specific expertise, claims resolution skill and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software and company systems
  • Ability to articulate complex claim facts, issues and analyses in concise presentations and internal reports
  • Professional designations preferred
