About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage an inventory of low to moderate complexity and exposure commercial claims
  • Verify policy coverage, gather necessary information, maintain file documentation and authorize disbursements within authority limits
  • Interact professionally with insureds, claimants and business partners to provide updates and respond to inquiries
  • Establish timely and adequate reserves by reviewing policy language and estimating claim valuation
  • Investigate claims, take recorded statements and work with experts to verify claim facts
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, suppliers and experts to facilitate favorable claim outcomes
  • Determine liability and compensability, negotiate settlements and escalate to management as appropriate
  • Manage expenses by resolving claims accurately and timely and overseeing appropriate resources
  • Identify subrogation, salvage and potential fraud opportunities and make referrals for further investigation
  • Follow company guidelines, achieve quality and cycle time targets, document files and issue claim disbursements
  • Maintain compliance with state and local regulatory requirements and stay current on commercial insurance laws, regulations and trends
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school Diploma required
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable
  • Prior claim handling, business experience in the insurance industry and/or customer service preferred
  • Developing basic knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products and claim practices
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to demonstrate empathy
  • Ability to develop collaborative business relationships with internal and external work partners
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, solve basic problems and make sound business decisions
  • Analytical mindset with critical thinking skills
  • Strong work ethic, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software
  • Adaptable to a changing environment
  • Ability to value diverse opinions and ideas
