About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Directly handle and overall manage the most complex, highest-exposure claims in the Mass Tort Claims Unit
- Handle claims involving social media/AI addiction, sexual abuse and molestation, pollution/environmental issues, toxic chemical exposures, multi-claimant product exposures, talc, PFAS/AFFF, and claims affecting multiple policy periods
- Assess coverage obligations, analyze policy language, and prepare written coverage determinations
- Manage complex commercial claims, including investigations, coverage determinations, resolution strategies, risk transfer, negotiations, and litigation management
- Set and manage timely and adequate reserves
- Develop, own, and execute claim resolution strategies, including complex settlements, litigation management, and payment authorization
- Coordinate, lead, and execute agreed-upon strategies independently
- Present high-exposure matters to senior leadership, counsel, and others
- Maintain subject matter expertise and compliance with state/local regulatory requirements
- Mentor, guide, develop, and train less experienced Claim Professionals
- Assist with special projects as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree with Master's preferred in a related discipline or JD preferred, or equivalent experience
- Typically, a minimum of 10 years related work experience such as claims or legal experience with proven track record of success
- Latent injury and/or high severity general liability claims experience strongly preferred
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable
- Expert knowledge of commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, legacy liabilities, and claim practices
- Extensive experience leading complex negotiations and developing and implementing resolution strategies
- Strong analytical, investigative, critical thinking, judgment, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, collaborate with internal resources, outside counsel, and other carriers
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software
- Skilled negotiator
