About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate commercial property claims in the field, generally involving moderate to high complexity and $20,000-$250,000 loss exposure
  • Inspect loss sites and utilize experts when needed
  • Review coverages, determine liability and compensability, and interpret and communicate coverage and denials
  • Prepare estimates, diagrams, inspection reports and upload photos using company systems and guidelines
  • Set activities and reserves, authorize payments within authority, and ensure issuance of disbursements while managing loss costs and expenses
  • Coordinate investigations and evaluate claims and suits through contact with insureds, claimants, business partners, witnesses and experts
  • Seek early resolution opportunities and negotiate complex settlement packages
  • Partner with attorneys, account representatives, agents, underwriters and insureds to develop strategies for timely and cost-effective resolution
  • Identify recovery and fraud potential and coordinate with subrogation, salvage, Recovery and SIU units
  • Accurately record claim circumstances and other business-relevant information
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other claims staff and functional areas
  • Keep current on state/territory regulations, issues, industry activity and trends
  • Report to a Manager or Director

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically a minimum three to five years claims experience
  • Solid knowledge of claims and insurance industry theory and practices
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage time and resources, accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
  • Ability to adapt to change and value diverse opinions and ideas
  • Ability to handle claims with a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives
  • Must be able to travel to visit loss sites and perform inspections in the field 50-75% of the time
  • Must be able to travel to other offices and/or locations and be available for Catastrophe deployment, including short-notice travel and periods exceeding two consecutive weeks
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain proper licensing as required
