About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage, develop business for, analyze and monitor a highly complex book of business
  • Assess acceptability of highly complex underwriting risks using diagnostic and systematic analysis
  • Develop specialized endorsement language for highly complex risks
  • Determine appropriate pricing using financial and competitive analysis and compliance requirements
  • Make recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy
  • Analyze quality, quantity and profitability of underwritten risks
  • Prepare and present reports to management
  • Market products and services through agencies and the brokerage community
  • Make field visits
  • Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships with large producers
  • Monitor state and territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends
  • Mentor and guide less experienced underwriters
  • Assist in developing underwriting training
  • Use advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems
  • Lead special underwriting projects and presentations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically a minimum eight years underwriting experience
  • Advanced technical expertise in underwriting
  • High level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures
  • Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues
  • Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Professional designations preferred
