About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage an inventory of low to moderate complexity and exposure commercial claims
- Verify policy coverage, gather necessary information, maintain file documentation and authorize disbursements within authority limits
- Interact with insureds, claimants and business partners to provide updates and respond to inquiries
- Establish timely and adequate reserves by reviewing policy language and estimating claim valuation
- Investigate claims, take recorded statements and work with experts to verify facts
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, suppliers and experts
- Determine liability and compensability, negotiate settlements and escalate to management as appropriate
- Manage expenses by resolving claims accurately and overseeing appropriate resources
- Identify subrogation, salvage and potential fraud opportunities and make referrals for further investigation
- Achieve quality and cycle-time standards through proper documentation and appropriate claim disbursements
- Maintain compliance with state and local regulatory requirements and stay current on commercial insurance laws and trends
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school Diploma required
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable
- Developing basic knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products and claim practices
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy while providing exceptional customer service
- Ability to develop collaborative business relationships with internal and external work partners
- Ability to exercise independent judgement, solve basic problems and make sound business decisions
- Analytical mindset with critical thinking skills
- Strong work ethic, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment at high levels of productivity
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn business-related software
- Adaptable to a changing environment
- Ability to value diverse opinions and ideas
- Prior claim handling, business experience in the insurance industry and/or customer service preferred
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred
