About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Java/Spring Boot
Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
Design relational database schemas, write queries, and troubleshoot data issues
Deploy and support AWS services following existing infrastructure patterns
Debug and resolve production issues, escalating and collaborating with the team lead as needed
Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate ramp-up and delivery
Collaborate with the engineering lead and cross-functional partners in product and QA to scope and ship features
Learn the codebase, engineering practices, and domain while progressing toward independent ownership

Requirements

What you’ll need

1-3 years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack developer, in any language
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, debugging, and problem-solving
Demonstrated ability to learn new languages/frameworks quickly
Experience building and consuming REST APIs
Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while communicating proactively
A growth mindset — comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and building toward greater ownership
Working knowledge of Java and Spring / Spring Boot (nice to have)
Some exposure to AWS or another major cloud provider (nice to have)
Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines (nice to have)
Exposure to microservices architecture (nice to have)
Contributions to open-source projects or personal projects (nice to have)
Remote, with a strong preference for candidates based in or near the US Eastern time zone
