About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and own key components of the data platform across ingestion, Google BigQuery, and dbt transformation layers
- Contribute to architecture and technical direction through design documentation and design reviews
- Design and maintain batch and CDC data ingestion pipelines from operational databases, SaaS applications, and ERP systems
- Use Claude Code and similar AI coding agents daily while refining engineering practices and guardrails
- Implement testing, monitoring, alerting, and on-call practices to improve reliability and observability
- Apply access models, auditability, and operational controls across pipelines and datasets
- Build foundations for agentic analytics with well-modeled and governed data
- Partner with analytics engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into platform capabilities
- Build Python APIs, automated jobs, and internal tools beyond the data warehouse
- Mentor and support engineers through code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing
- Contribute to proofs of concept involving lakehouse patterns, open table formats, and alternative query engines
- Report to the Staff Manager, Data Engineering & Analytics
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years building data platforms and pipelines in production
- Track record of independently owning and delivering complex projects
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud data warehousing (BigQuery or equivalent), dbt, and modern ingestion tooling
- Experience developing with Claude Code or a similar coding agent
- Experience implementing testing, monitoring, alerting, and on-call practices
- Understanding of access controls, auditability, and data-quality safeguards
- Strong SQL and Python skills
- Comfortable with version control, CI/CD, and testing workflows
- Experience managing serverless compute, storage, and secrets on GCP, AWS, or another major cloud platform
- Ability to explain technical work to engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Knowledge of lakehouse patterns and query engines
- Ability to work legally in the United States
