About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead approximately 50 engineers across Data and Software Engineering within Group Security
Lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams
Shape engineering capabilities, platforms and practices for the future
Provide people and technical leadership during enterprise data platform transition
Lead transition from the existing AWS-based data environment to a Snowflake-powered platform integrated with AWS services
Guide evolution of data engineering capability across Snowflake, AWS, Airflow, S3 and dbt
Maintain accountability for software applications developed and operated by the team
Champion engineering quality, security, resilience, automation and operational excellence
Partner with senior Group Security stakeholders on technology decisions
Create clarity during periods of change and keep teams focused on security, customer and business outcomes
Foster collaboration, continuous improvement and technical excellence

Requirements

What you’ll need

Substantial experience leading engineering teams in complex enterprise environments
Strong software engineering background complemented by deep data engineering experience
Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across data and software capabilities
Significant experience designing, delivering or migrating enterprise-scale data platforms, including transitions between complex technology ecosystems
Strong Snowflake experience
Experience across AWS data technologies
Exposure to Airflow, S3, dbt and broader cloud infrastructure highly regarded
Experience owning engineering capability and the delivery and operation of applications or platforms
Strong stakeholder leadership and ability to influence, constructively challenge and create direction amid shifting priorities or ambiguity
Experience operating in large-scale data environments where security, risk, resilience and data constraints are important
Self-starting, outcome-focused leadership style with technical judgement to challenge architecture, delivery and operational decisions
Experience working in a security or cyber security environment, or demonstrated knowledge of security concepts and practices, advantageous
