Key responsibilities & impact

Lead engineering for a major three-year transformation of the ATM network
Shape target architecture across ATM software, routing and switching, reconciliation, real-time data and cash-management capabilities
Help deliver a greenfield ATM switching platform and transition to cloud-native architecture
Design resilient cloud infrastructure and integrate a new Java-based ATM switch
Modernise and simplify complex legacy systems while protecting reliability and customer experience
Champion Terraform, quality engineering, fail-safe design, REST APIs and modern observability
Apply LLMs, knowledge graphs and agentic approaches to reverse engineering, requirements discovery, prototyping and developer experience
Influence engineering direction across the domain and mentor other engineers
Collaborate across engineering, customer journeys and colleague experiences within Assisted Technology

Requirements

What you’ll need

Principal Engineer-level systems thinking and end-to-end architecture expertise
Deep Java and Spring Boot expertise with full-stack engineering breadth, ideally including TypeScript, React, Next.js and Node.js
Experience designing and delivering cloud-native distributed systems at scale
Experience with APIs, event-driven architecture, SDKs, data, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, resilience and complex integrations
Ability to translate ambiguous business and domain challenges into architecture and engineering direction
Experience leading large-scale modernisation of complex legacy environments
Strong integration engineering experience
Experience applying AI-powered engineering and agentic tooling across the software development lifecycle
Secure-by-design, resilience, performance engineering, observability, automated delivery and operational ownership practices
Principal Engineer-level technical leadership and hands-on credibility
Experience with several listed technologies including React, Next.js, TypeScript, Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, microservices, RESTful APIs, Apache Kafka, Oracle PL/SQL, MongoDB, AWS, AWS CDK, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, testing frameworks, GitHub, TurboRepo, generative AI tools, Prometheus, Grafana and PagerDuty
