About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, test and deploy scalable data solutions across the full engineering development lifecycle
Lead engineering initiatives and coordinate delivery across data, platform, operations and observability teams
Review solution designs and architectures and provide practical guidance aligned with engineering standards and strategy
Contribute to technical governance covering architecture, implementation, risk and adoption
Support engineers through complex technical challenges and mentor them to build capability
Develop secure, maintainable and production-ready data pipelines and data products
Partner with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements, assess technical data solutions and deliver outcomes
Contribute to engineering recruitment, including technical interviews and consistent application of hiring standards
Uplift data engineering resource capabilities
Contribute to using GenAI to improve ways of working, data analytics, insights and productivity
Support modernisation of the data domain and evolution of Big Data AWS-based platforms with increased Snowflake and dbt adoption

Requirements

What you’ll need

Deep data engineering capability and sound technical judgement
Strong experience designing and delivering enterprise data pipelines using complex SQL and programming languages such as Python/PySpark, Scala or Java
Practical AWS data engineering experience, including Amazon S3, EMR/Spark, Airflow, Iceberg and AWS Glue
Strong experience with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Iceberg, Sqoop, Kinesis or MSK/Kafka
Production experience with Snowflake and understanding of data solution design on the platform
Experience with dbt or comparable data transformation frameworks
Experience leading architecture and design reviews while balancing delivery, risk, security, maintainability and cost
Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders
Understanding of source control, CI/CD, automated testing, DevSecOps and continuous integration and delivery
Experience using AI Engineering frameworks and tools such as Claude, LangGraph, LangChain, Codex, ChatGPT or Copilot
Ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries and lead through influence
