About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate, supervise, and provide leadership support to laboratory staff
  • Serve as a technical and administrative resource for the designated laboratory section
  • Oversee operational, technical, and staff activities, including staff scheduling and performance management
  • Develop and coordinate activities promoting high-quality laboratory processing and analysis
  • Ensure current laboratory practice standards are consistently met
  • Consult and collaborate with healthcare team members
  • Perform qualified clinical laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment
  • Perform and supervise testing activities while maintaining competency
  • Review section policies and procedures; manage workload and processes
  • Coordinate and monitor equipment compliance documentation, operational checks, and routine maintenance
  • Select, orient, train, assess competence, and develop new and existing staff
  • Evaluate new testing procedures and make recommendations to the Laboratory Director and Medical Director
  • Provide technical supervision, serve as a staff resource, and review results
  • Conduct regular section staff meetings
  • Participate in the Laboratory Quality Improvement Plan
  • Work with clients and patients to meet customer needs and solicit feedback
  • Monitor annual section financial goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science; other science degrees accepted in conjunction with a combination of experience and training as defined by CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493.1449
  • Must possess appropriate experience, certification or registration to qualify as general testing personnel in accordance with CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493
  • MLS (ASCP)/MLT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred
  • Must qualify as a technical supervisor under CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493.1449
  • At least 4 years of clinical experience as defined in CLIA standards §493
  • Training and/or experience in the specialties and subspecialties being technically supervised
  • Enhanced knowledge in the laboratory area of expertise
  • Knowledge of laboratory regulations and proficiency in continuous quality improvement
  • Understanding of laboratory medicine and its application in collaboration with patient care teams
  • High level of experience with Laboratory Information Systems
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to perform clinical laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment in qualified categories
  • Knowledge of CLIA regulations and competency in the responsible area
