About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Answer phones according to practice guidelines, identify patient health concerns, and direct calls
  • Interview patients and measure vital signs
  • Update medication and allergy lists and record information in the EMR
  • Prepare, stock, and clean examination rooms
  • Prepare patients for physical examinations and assist providers with procedures
  • Demonstrate clinical skills in the practice
  • Schedule patient appointments and order referrals
  • Inventory and order medical supplies, remove outdated materials, and ensure proper labeling
  • Use Cerner, GroupWise, and related software for documentation, requests, tests, and orders
  • Greet patients and escort them to examination rooms
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization
  • Perform job-specific and other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program preferred, or healthcare experience such as formal medical training, EMT, LNA, military medic, or technician experience
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification or Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers certification
  • Medical Assistants are encouraged to obtain certification or registration within the first three years of employment
  • With completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, no experience is required
  • For other candidates, at least 1 year of healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to perform required physical duties, including lifting, carrying, or pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to work with blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, airborne pathogens, electrical hazards, and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Required hearing, speaking, fine motor, repetitive motion, walking, and specified vision abilities
