About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take responsibility for the operation and further development of Contabo’s hosting platform
- Operate and maintain Proxmox/KVM virtualization, storage, networking, monitoring, and observability systems
- Serve as the technical escalation point for the Platform Support team
- Analyze complex issues to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
- Automate platform operations using Ansible and Git
- Plan and oversee maintenance, upgrades, and migrations
- Contribute to capacity and hardware planning, including new hardware generations and locations
- Own a platform domain and make well-informed design decisions
- Document design decisions transparently
- Share knowledge with the team
- Collaborate with Platform, Support, Dev, Network, and Security teams to solve problems and drive improvements
- Work partly in English with globally distributed teams and data centers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Training as an IT specialist in system integration, a degree in computer science, or a comparable qualification and experience
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the operation or development of large-scale Linux and virtualization environments
- Solid hands-on experience with Linux troubleshooting and performance
- Solid hands-on experience with Proxmox/KVM or comparable virtualization technologies
- Solid hands-on experience with Ansible
- Solid hands-on experience with monitoring solutions such as Zabbix or Prometheus/Grafana
- Ideally, experience with ZFS and/or Ceph
- Ideally, knowledge of networking fundamentals including BGP, L3 routing, VLAN, and Open vSwitch
- Ideally, experience with Git/CI and scripting in Bash or Python
- A plus: Terraform, Kubernetes, Vault, PowerDNS, or hosting/cloud environment experience
- Self-motivation and a proactive approach
- Ability to document decisions clearly and share knowledge
- Enjoyment of working with other teams and independently
- Very good German and English skills
