About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own employee relations once matters become formal, including investigations, grievances, conflicts, and improvement plans
- Run exits, including paperwork, statutory liabilities, full and final settlements, and records
- Design and operate the performance review cycle, including promotions and cross-squad rating calibration
- Lead pay reviews within compensation bands and provide India market data
- Create and maintain the India employee handbook and employment contracts, including fixed-term intern contracts
- Shape onboarding and close compliance gaps involving Labour Codes, POSH, the Internal Committee, and state registrations
- Lead engagement surveys, action plans, and employee events
- Track employee attrition and the cost and reasons for departures
- Provide structured one-to-ones and performance coaching to direct reports
- Lead the People team, including a coordinator responsible for HRIS hygiene, onboarding/offboarding, bureau liaison, and audit records
- Plan and hire future People team roles as volume grows
- Evaluate and advocate for improved tools and automation
- Partner with pod leads, managers, the Talent Acquisition Lead, the VP of Global Enablement and Support, and the Head of People and Culture in Australia
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated experience handling an India termination independently, including letters, liabilities, settlement, and legally defensible documentation
- Experience managing a contested investigation or grievance with a robust process
- Experience calibrating performance ratings across several squads and challenging manager ratings when necessary
- Experience writing and rolling out policies followed by managers and team members
- Experience running an engagement project or event and measuring its impact
- Experience making and defending decisions against senior stakeholders, including learning from incorrect decisions
- Direct people-management experience with coaching records
- Strong knowledge of India Labour Codes, POSH, and statutory benefits including PF, ESI, gratuity, and professional tax
- Ability to work across India and Australia time differences
- Nice to have: compensation rounds within fixed ranges and market-data defense
- Nice to have: GCC or multi-country HR experience
- Nice to have: Education or EdTech experience
