About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct employment law support and legal support to the U.S.-based Deputy General Counsel in litigation and other corporate matters
  • Draft, review, and manage day-to-day sales, procurement, and other commercial agreements
  • Ensure compliance with North American and European federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks
  • Support and coordinate with the Compliance team, including investigative matters
  • Advise U.S., European, and Canadian Human Resources departments and management teams on labor and employment laws
  • Advise on onboarding, restrictive covenants, disciplinary actions, separations, employee benefits concerns, and claims
  • Provide counsel on employment contracts, separation and severance agreements, internal investigations, discrimination, harassment, and related compliance issues
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliant employment policies, procedures, and practices
  • Conduct training sessions and provide educational resources on employment law
  • Manage external counsel as needed and oversee disputes and litigation matters
  • Manage ongoing and potential litigation, disputes, and commercial matters with Legal Group members
  • Review sales and marketing materials for legal compliance and adequate substantiation
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to achieve business objectives while maintaining legal and ethical standards
  • Report directly to the VP, Deputy General Counsel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Admission to the bar in the state of New Jersey or another state, and eligible for in-house counsel registration
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as an attorney, preferably in healthcare, life sciences, or a related industry, with a focus on litigation and employment law
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state laws and regulations
  • Ability to research labor and employment laws, regulations and collective bargaining requirements outside the U.S., such as Canada, the EU and Latin American countries, without overly relying on external counsel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and group presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic legal advice and counsel to global business partners within varied functions and global business units
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior
  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admission to an applicable state bar for the U.S.-based role
  • Strong research, project management, and time management skills
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage a demanding workload and effectively prioritize tasks
  • Ability to develop creative legal solutions
  • Willingness to learn Convatec’s businesses, products, and services
