About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as HR manager and business partner to designated administrative departments
  • Provide HR guidance to assigned departments
  • Attend periodic meetings with management of respective business units
  • Monitor the evaluation and feedback process
  • Conduct staffing needs assessments
  • Manage the full life-cycle recruitment process, using in-house recruiter support as needed
  • Collaborate with the compensation team on annual merit and quarterly market review processes
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues
  • Improve work relationships, morale, productivity and retention
  • Identify training programs, professional development goals and coaching needs
  • Monitor training programs to ensure objectives are met
  • Create department-specific core competencies and monitor employee progress
  • Advise on department restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Interpret and advise management on human resources policies
  • Route benefits, leave of absence and wellness questions to the benefits department
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements related to employee management
  • Reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Assist HR leadership with assigned tasks and projects
  • Perform all other assigned or required duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • 5+ years of experience in HR
  • Familiarity with state and federal employment laws
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources or related field
  • Prior law firm experience
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines
  • HR certification (PHR/SPHR/SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred
  • Prior HRIS experience, such as Workday
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and efficiently
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while producing error-free work
  • Excellent verbal, email and writing skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
