About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and lead the Human Resources function
  • Translate the existing culture into formal people-management policies, criteria, and practices
  • Develop HR subsystems, including organizational development; employee engagement and internal communications; onboarding and employee experience; training, professional development, and leadership development; job architecture, compensation, benefits, and career paths; performance management; and recruitment and selection
  • Oversee payroll and labor-union relations
  • Design and implement HR policies and processes in an environment without a pre-existing support structure
  • Maintain a close presence with the team through active listening and hands-on involvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Extensive generalist HR experience, with proven experience managing the function or coordinating it with equivalent autonomy
  • Demonstrated experience building HR from the ground up or significantly restructuring the function, rather than merely maintaining existing processes
  • Strong command of HR subsystems, including organizational development, training and professional development, job architecture and compensation, benefits, recruitment and selection, performance management, and employee engagement
  • Practical experience in job descriptions and job evaluation, salary-band construction, and the use of market surveys
  • Experience designing career paths and competency frameworks
  • Experience creating structured onboarding programs
  • Knowledge of employment law and payroll/HR administration processes sufficient to oversee payroll and labor-union relations, even without performing these activities directly
  • Familiarity with hiring and managing independent contractors (PJ arrangements), including risk-mitigation best practices
  • Analytical skills and proficiency with spreadsheets and people analytics
