About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct quality assurance and transportation vehicle inspections at designated locations
- Perform consistent inspections on newly manufactured vehicles
- Inspect vehicles for impact damage, vandalism, factory defects, restraint failure damage, accidents, weather-related damage, and transportation-related damage
- Document and code damage and provide verification codes for trucking companies before dealership delivery
- Complete inspections in demanding outdoor environments and fast-paced, multi-organization facilities
- Ensure inspection quality, consistent standards, accurate data transmission, and timely completion
- Make analytical inspection decisions using defined guidelines
- Conduct inspections on facility grounds and aboard rail cars
- Document and record vehicle damage using a handheld computer and digital camera
- Assist with root-cause analysis of transportation-related damage
- Prepare routine oral and written inspection reports
- Transmit all files upon completion of inspection
- Locate vehicles and board rail cars and ships as needed
- Complete special projects and other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years’ experience in a related field; alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience, or 7 years’ experience in a related field
- Previous vehicle inspection experience and automotive knowledge, body and mechanical, required
- 2–3 years of automotive-related experience strongly preferred
- 1 year of service with Manheim Inspections recommended
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required
- Reliable transportation required
- Good communication and interpersonal skills required
- Strong technical aptitude
- Detail-oriented
- Experience navigating handheld and other documentation devices preferred
- Ability to work independently with remote supervision
- Ability to multitask, follow directions, and take instruction required
- Body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge helpful
- Familiarity with unibody and full-frame helpful
- Ability to lift and hold at least 30 lbs. at waist level for an extended period
- Regular attendance and availability
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, and hear regularly
- Ability to crouch, bend, kneel, lift hoods or trunks, and reach inside or underneath vehicles
- Near vision ability to identify vehicle damage and colors
- Ability to work in different lighting conditions
- Physical ability and mental acuity to execute duties within required timeframes
- Must clear a pre-employment drug test
- Currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship; no OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT, or visa sponsorship
