About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform complex financial analysis, accounting research, internal financial reporting, and strategic business support
- Review monthly general ledger journal entries for accuracy and supporting documentation
- Research, interpret, and implement accounting policies and procedures
- Evaluate accounting implications of strategic initiatives and business decisions
- Review and prepare analytic explanations for general ledger and financial statement variances
- Improve financial reporting through modifications and enhancements
- Develop actionable financial analyses for Finance leadership and executive stakeholders
- Review complex monthly general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly internal financial reports
- Partner with business leaders to provide financial insights
- Ensure internal controls are designed and operating effectively
- Maintain policies, procedures, flowcharts, and internal controls
- Complete quarterly self-assessments
- Lead initiatives to strengthen controls, reduce risk, improve efficiency, and automate manual processes
- Prepare financial statement supporting schedules
- Lead complex cross-functional projects with Finance, Accounting, Engineering, and Operations
- Provide guidance, coaching, and subject matter expertise to analysts and team members
- Serve as functional lead for assigned accounting and financial reporting processes
- Help prioritize and assign team workloads and review complex analyses and deliverables
- Partner with the Accounting Manager to ensure high-quality, timely results
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum 8 years of related finance and accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience leading complex projects, initiatives, or workstreams
- Experience researching accounting issues and interpreting U.S. GAAP
- Experience writing financial analytics for executive-level users
- Experience designing and implementing process improvements
- Proficiency with MS Excel
- Required degrees must have been earned at accredited institutions of higher education
- Must not require current or future sponsorship to work legally for Credit Acceptance
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Preferred: Certified Public Accountant or equivalent, such as Chartered Accountant
- Preferred: Experience influencing strategic decisions through financial modeling and business case development
- Preferred: Experience in the Insurance and/or Financial Services industries
- Preferred: Accounting experience from a large national or regional CPA firm
- Preferred: Proficiency with MS Access
