About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the product roadmap for retail customer experience across the in-store journey and digital touchpoints connecting stores to Backcountry.com
  • Build and improve cross-channel experiences including buy online, pick up in store; ship from store; store inventory visibility; and in-store returns
  • Extend loyalty and customer recognition into stores, including membership, points, and order history
  • Partner with store operations and store teams to translate operational needs into product requirements
  • Design customer experiences for rentals, fittings, and tuning, including booking, payment, and pickup
  • Define success metrics, instrument retail initiatives, and use data and experimentation to prioritize development
  • Work with engineering on point of sale, inventory, order management, and customer data systems
  • Decide what systems to integrate versus rebuild
  • Create repeatable playbooks and requirements for onboarding new stores or store groups
  • Partner with engineering, design, merchandising, marketing, analytics, and operations to deliver products
  • Own end-to-end team performance and delivery from roadmap through shipped product
  • Report to the Vice President of Product and UX
  • Participate in a mandatory in-person interview before an offer

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3–5+ years of product management experience
  • Experience owning retail, omnichannel, or in-store customer experience, or closely adjacent commerce products
  • Working understanding of point of sale, inventory and order management, and customer data platforms
  • Demonstrated impact on conversion, revenue, or operational efficiency with measurable results
  • Strong analytical and experimentation skills
  • Experience using GA4, Looker, SQL, or similar tools
  • Ability to ship iteratively through rapid release cycles
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders, including store leadership and field teams
  • Willingness to travel to stores regularly
  • Willingness to work onsite three days per week in Utah
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools within product workflows (preferred)
  • Experience launching product in new stores, new markets, or newly integrated businesses (preferred)
  • Experience with rental, service, or appointment-based retail models (preferred)
  • Background in outdoor, specialty, or hardgoods retail (preferred)
  • Employment is contingent on a background check, including verification of prior employment dates
