About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead architecture, quality, and engineering standards across the e-commerce platform powering five outdoor and powersports brands
Lead a small team of developers building fulfillment, warehouse management, and order management systems
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, performant, and maintainable fulfillment systems
Drive AI-powered and agentic workflows to improve engineering delivery throughput, quality, and reliability
Enable engineering teams to integrate with fulfillment system interfaces through API documentation, observability monitoring, and alerting
Design and implement agentic quality gates
Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to deliver projects
Mentor engineers at all levels on software development best practices
Own team performance and delivery end-to-end, including architecture, quality standards, mentorship, and production software delivery
Represent Backcountry's core values through technical decisions and team interactions

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience in software development with a strong background in e-commerce fulfillment, including order management and warehouse management
Experience leveraging best-in-class AI tooling to accelerate development
Deep expertise in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Node.js
Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns, with demonstrated enterprise-scale experience
Expertise with relational databases and SQL, including query optimization
Expertise with NoSQL and document-oriented databases
Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD tooling
Experience with GCP or AWS
Proven track record of leading software development teams and delivering production-grade software
Excellent communication skills in English
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively under constraint
Valid LinkedIn profile URL required, or credible alternative evidence of professional background
Must be willing and able to attend a mandatory in-person interview
Preferred: experience in outdoor retail, multi-brand e-commerce, or high-SKU retail environments
Preferred: familiarity with omni-channel fulfillment and order management systems at scale
