About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the Payments product vision, roadmap, prioritised backlog, and user stories with testable acceptance criteria
- Run sprint planning, refinement, reviews, UAT, and business sign-off
- Make tradeoffs across scope, quality, timelines, and feasibility
- Track payment success rates, volumes, processing times, and post-release adoption
- Support modernisation and simplification of legacy payment capabilities
- Own and expand AI-assisted payment features and embed AI into controlled, auditable approval workflows
- Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Compliance, bank integration, and formats specialists
- Own functional payment behaviour and user experience, including approval, maker-checker, and signer workflows
- Lead payments onboarding, enhancements, go-lives, and hypercare for clients
- Benchmark client needs against markets and competitors and support presales and RFP responses
- Own role creation, role catalogue, and role inventory for access provisioning
- Partner on access remediation and confidential client-data regulatory requirements
- Ensure nonfunctional requirements, SLAs, and controls are captured in delivery
- Manage cross-team dependencies, delivery risks, and production issues through root cause and fix
- People-manage junior Business Analysts and support training and career development
- Act as Payments subject matter expert and coach the team on agile practice and product thinking
Requirements
What you’ll need- Overall 10 or more years in product ownership or business analysis
- At least three documented years as Product Owner in payments, banking, or fund services technology
- Functional knowledge of payment flows including IAT, FX, and batch and bulk payments
- Proven agile backlog management
- Experience writing precise user stories, BRDs, and acceptance criteria, including for AI-driven functionality
- Experience delivering in a regulated, controls-driven environment
- Understanding of RBAC, segregation of duties, client protection, and audit remediation
- Strong stakeholder management across business, architecture, and engineering in a matrix organisation
- Commercial acumen and data-driven decision-making
- Clear communication across senior and client-facing audiences and time zones
- Working proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of Generative and Agentic AI, rapid prototyping, and AI governance
- Experience with cross-regional payments modernisation and regulatory change is preferred
- Product certification such as CSPO, PSPO, or SAFe POPM is preferred
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred
- An MBA is a plus
