About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide advice and service on patent preparation and prosecution
- Manage related patent portfolio activities, including patent evaluation, potential infringement issues, competitive landscape reviews, and oversight of outside counsel
- Manage patent prosecution and participate in implementing IP strategy
- Prepare and file US patent applications and assist with applications in other jurisdictions and foreign office actions
- Participate in internal patenting committees
- Conduct invention disclosure interviews to identify patentable ideas
- Advise senior IP leaders and partner with stakeholders to identify and design improvements
- Manage outside counsel relationships
- Support large and/or complex cases and matters worldwide
- Manage projects and matters with appropriate supervision
- Provide support and leadership in improvement and issue-resolution projects
- Work with engineering and other business organizations to understand priorities and challenges
- Instruct and supervise outside counsel and consultants as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering, computer science, material science, physics, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience
- Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- May require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations
- Significant relevant work experience, including team leadership experience
- Experience with Artificial Intelligence in the IP space
- Preferred: Prepared and prosecuted at least 50 patent applications
- Preferred: At least 5+ years of relevant intellectual property experience, including global and domestic patent prosecution, patent strategies, patent analysis, and global IP portfolio management
- Preferred: Experience with AI tools and AI prompting
- Preferred: Experience with diesel engines
- Preferred: Experience with data centers
- Preferred: Registered Patent Agent or Attorney
- Analytical reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, influencing, communication, relationship management, and conflict management skills
