About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with site leadership, operational teams, union representatives, and the Corporate Safety Team to support safety initiatives and achieve site safety objectives
  • Build employee trust through visible and consistent safety support while reducing the human, operational, and financial impact of workplace injuries
  • Serve as the dedicated safety resource for greenfield manufacturing development projects, integrating safety requirements throughout facility design, construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and operational readiness
  • Partner with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and operations leaders to identify risks, implement controls, and support safe project milestone execution
  • Lead and support project safety activities including risk assessments, design reviews, contractor safety management, pre-startup safety reviews, and operational readiness evaluations
  • Coordinate safety requirements for capital projects, facility modifications, and equipment installations to ensure regulatory and company standards compliance
  • Participate in facility and equipment design reviews to identify hazards and support safe planning principles
  • Support construction, installation, and commissioning through field presence, risk identification, issue resolution, and stakeholder collaboration
  • Facilitate incident investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, medical staff, and union representatives to improve safety performance and employee engagement
  • Support implementation and sustainability of safety management systems, Life Critical Risk programs, and site-specific safety initiatives
  • Analyze safety performance metrics, leading indicators, and trends to identify improvement opportunities and support data-driven decisions
  • Participate in regulatory inspections, internal audits, and corporate assessments while supporting corrective action development and closure
  • Collaborate with DTNA safety professionals to share best practices, benchmark performance, and support organizational continuous improvement
  • Build relationships with employees, leaders, contractors, and union partners to promote a proactive and inclusive safety culture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience supporting occupational safety programs within manufacturing, industrial, construction, engineering, or operational environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, NOM, CSA, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and applicable safety regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Experience supporting safety activities for capital projects, facility construction, equipment installations, process improvements, or operational readiness initiatives
  • Working knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation processes, safety management systems, and continuous improvement principles
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively engage employees, leaders, contractors, and union representatives
  • Experience utilizing safety data, metrics, and trend analysis to identify risks and support performance improvement efforts
  • Understanding of occupational health principles, injury management processes, and employee health programs
  • Master’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (exceptional candidates might have)
  • Experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of Enablon or similar EHS management systems
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations, large projects, or cross-functional initiatives preferred
  • ASP, CSP, CHST, CAPM, or other relevant safety or project management certifications
  • Experience supporting manufacturing start-ups, greenfield projects, facility construction, or major operational expansions
  • Experience participating in design reviews, contractor safety management, commissioning activities, or pre-startup safety reviews
  • Experience leveraging safety analytics, leading indicators, and digital technologies to proactively identify and reduce risk
  • Up to 80% travel
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the country the position is located in; no visa sponsorship or existing visa holders
  • Successful criminal background check
  • May be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen
