About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, implement, and support PLC and HMI control software and hardware across test benches, testing infrastructure, and equipment
- Support variable frequency drives and provide technical assistance with troubleshooting and repairs
- Work with engineers, union technicians, and external suppliers on process HVAC, process media, safety detection systems, and other systems
- Use structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and integrate corrective actions into new or existing processes
- Manage the test center operational technology network in alignment with Daimler Truck IT compliance and cybersecurity requirements
- Implement and support test center operational technology monitoring and interfaces for integration into higher-level systems and data observability
- Research and apply new industrial controls technology and methodologies to optimize operational efficiency
- Create, implement, and maintain controls documentation, including electrical schematics, system design diagrams, safety/control matrices, equipment specifications, and operating manuals
- Interface with other Daimler Truck control engineers, including those in manufacturing, to commonize controls technology and methodology
- Lead cross-functional daily support activities and test center infrastructure projects
- Diagnose and resolve test bench downtime to maximize uptime and operational performance
- Support end-to-end test systems integration for powertrain, engine, and component test benches across conventional diesel and alternative propulsion technologies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields from an ABET Accredited University
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience within manufacturing or automotive testing industry
- Minimum 2 years of experience with systems design principles, controls and automation technology and methodologies
- 1+ years of experience working with high power circuits up to 480VAC and low voltage control circuits
- 1+ years of experience working with fieldbus, industrial Ethernet, and industrial IoT communication protocols, including Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, and IO-Link
- 1+ years of experience with CAD software and electrical print packages, including AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN Electric P8, and SolidWorks Electrical
- 1+ years of experience troubleshooting PLC-driven equipment and identifying and solving root causes of complex problems
- Demonstrable knowledge of Siemens PLC, HMI, and electrical hardware products
- Demonstrable knowledge of Siemens software, including TIA Portal Suite, STEP 7, WinCC, Safety, Starter, and PRONETA
- Demonstrable knowledge of Siemens programming languages: LAD, FBD, and SCL
- Proficiency in technical reports, written procedures, and documentation
- Strong analytical thinking, effective communication skills, and capacity for teamwork and collaboration
- Exceptional candidates might have experience with Siemens SINAMICS G and S-series drive systems and large AC motors
- Exceptional candidates might have experience with additional industrial protocols: EtherCAT, Modbus, CAN, MQTT, and BACnet/IP
- Exceptional candidates might have experience with non-Siemens PLCs and industrial controller software and hardware, including Beckhoff TwinCAT, ABB Automation Builder, and Allen-Bradley Studio 5000
- Exceptional candidates might have hands-on experience with control panel building
- Exceptional candidates might have experience with SCADA systems and integrating edge devices, including Ignition, FactoryTalk, and VTScada
- Exceptional candidates might have experience with Windows application programming, including C#, Python, and .NET; database management with MS SQL Server and InfluxDB; and dashboarding tools such as Grafana
- Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country the position is located in at the time of application
- Final candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check
- Final candidate may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen
