About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Assess phase: discover on-premises and cloud database environments, produce technical assessments, and recommend migration strategies
  • Define technical migration strategies based on data volume, acceptable downtime, and heterogeneity
  • Support the design of database landing zones, HA/DR topologies, and instance sizing
  • Execute migrations of large and complex workloads, including mission-critical environments in the financial sector
  • Execute cutovers, validate post-migration integrity and performance, and recommend modernization initiatives
  • Lead proofs of concept for modernization scenarios before production deployment
  • Perform performance tuning, diagnose issues, optimize queries and instances, and present results
  • Work with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and Redis
  • Design and support AWS database architectures focused on high availability, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and performance
  • Prepare and present technical documentation for assessments and migration results
  • Perform post-migration troubleshooting, query tuning, instance parameter optimization, and partitioning
  • Plan backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Provide technical support and leadership to mid-level analysts by reviewing deliverables and guiding decisions
  • Mentor the team, standardize runbooks, and promote best practices
  • Collaborate with AWS Architecture on infrastructure, networking, and security

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience in cross-platform database administration (at least two database platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or Redis)
  • Proven experience with projects involving the migration of large and complex workloads to the cloud, including multiple instances, high data volumes, and critical environments
  • Proficiency in migration strategies and tools, including Export/Import, Data Pump, AWS DMS, and AWS SCT, including CDC scenarios
  • Knowledge of Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, self-managed EC2, and RDS Custom
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery (Data Guard, Always On, and native replication), as well as backup and disaster recovery planning
  • Advanced SQL; knowledge of PL/SQL and/or T-SQL for diagnosis and code conversion in heterogeneous migrations
  • Experience leading database modernization PoCs
  • Ability to conduct technical assessments and present results directly to clients
  • Experience supporting or providing technical leadership to mid-level analysts on migration projects
  • Technical English for AWS documentation and communication with international teams
  • Preferred: prior experience with the AWS MAP framework (Assess, Mobilize, Migrate & Modernize)
  • Preferred: AWS certification (Database Specialty, Solutions Architect Associate, or Cloud Practitioner)
  • Preferred: platform-specific certifications (Oracle OCP, Microsoft DP-300, etc.)
  • Preferred: experience with GoldenGate for continuous replication in low-downtime migrations
  • Preferred: knowledge of automation tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) for database infrastructure provisioning
  • Preferred: experience with multi-client projects at an AWS consulting firm or partner
  • Preferred: experience with database modernization (e.g., migrating commercial Oracle/SQL Server to Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL)
